RED CLOVER is a perennial, cool-season legume. It establishes vigorously and has high yields in the first year. If planted in the spring, red clover can produce 3 hay cuttings per year. It is valued for its nitrogen fixation which increases soil fertility. Red Clover is best suited with a companion crop such as Orchardgrass, Timothy or Tall Fescues. A popular mix is 8 lbs of Red Clover and 15 lbs of K-31 Fescue per acre. Plant 8-12 lbs per acre if planted alone or reduce seeding to 8 lbs per acre using the appropriate lbs for the companion grass. Seed in February -April and August -September with a depth of 1/4" to 1/2."
